25-year-old NBA star Anthony Davis requested a trade out of the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.
It isn’t often that a hot commodity like Davis becomes available for trade, so it isn’t a surprise to already see teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and even the Toronto Raptors suspected to make offers, according to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor.
The Boston Celtics could also be a key contender in the trade, but they would not be able to do so until the summer, unless Kyle Irving is traded as well. (Sportsnet)
But when we think of the prospect of the Lakers taking on Davis, it tends to stand out as the obvious choice.
With LeBron being off the courts due to a groin injury for the longest he ever has in the history of his career, there may be no better time to bring in a fierce player like Davis.
However oftentimes, the most seemingly obvious choice isn’t the choice that’s made – and there are a number of other suitors who just may reign supreme in this particular trade. Gayle Benson is the newest owner in the NBA, taking on the Pelicans in March 2018 when husband of 13 years Tom Benson passed away. Without any previous track record or experience dealing with like critical decision-making, it will likely be a stressful time for Benson – not to mention a telling time for the NBA in terms of Benson’s tenure.
"We're going to invest more money and get the big players and do everything we can to keep Anthony [Davis] here," said Benson in a December interview with The Athletic.
"I really like Anthony, but if he wants to leave, you can't hold him back." (ESPN)
We’re just as impatient to see where Davis ends up as you are. But most likely at the end of it all, we will see him in LA with LeBron.
