Shining a Spotlight on Toronto Raptors MVP: Kyle Lowry

Kyle Lowry assist leader, MVP Toronto Raptors.

Lowry’s doing big things with no plans of slowing down.

Turns out that Raptors’ assist leader Kyle Lowry is truly a force to be reckoned with.

In a recent victorious win over the LA Lakers this past Sunday, Lowry finished off the game with 21 points, 15 assists – making this his eighth game in a row with assists in the double digits. The game’s final score was 121 – 107, and Lowry played a critical role in making that happen.

But the 32 year-old’s impressive assist count goes beyond yesterday’s game – with a whopping 31 more assists than any other guard in the NBA.

A righteous nod to “Mighty Mouse”

Kyle attributes his status and success to former Raptors point guard Damon Stoudamire (AKA Mighty Mouse), who he has quoted to be his “ultimate vet”; always telling him to “be patient and work hard”. Stoudamire himself has some positive thoughts on the Raptors and their future; recently quoting them as “the people’s team”

Taking it back, Lowry made his first NBA debut back in November of 2006 (12 years ago) – with a notable big steal on Jamal Crawford that put a halt to the opposing team’s win. “I remember it like yesterday”, Lowry said of the game. "It was a special night. My mom was down there, my family was with me. ….When your dreams finally come true, you kind of remember those types of things."

The Raptors are going to need Lowry to keep up his lucky (or should we say skillful) streak now and into the postseason. We’re feeling optimistic for Toronto, and won’t be missing them play Utah tonight.
