Let’s get our kids into the game!
Is your child enrolled in any extra-curricular sports activities?
Better yet, are they as physically active as they should be? It’s certainly an important issue that all parents and/or guardians should consider. And fortunately, sports programs such as basketball camps provide a range of truly valuable physical and developmental benefits for the growing children who participate in them. So without further ado, here are 5 valuable benefits that basketball camps offer our youth:
1. They promote excellent health and fitness:
Being enrolled in basketball camps keeps kids active, fit, and energetic. Basketball is a sport that engages the entire body, improving both cardiovascular health and overall strength. The CDC recommends that children and adolescents do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily. Keeping active with regular physical activity will help children maintain a healthy weight while preventing childhood obesity and other related health risks.
2. They teach youth about personal goal-setting and self-discipline:
Youth basketball camps like the Young3 provide young kids with an amazing opportunity to challenge themselves and set personal goals. It teaches them the excitement of healthy competition and shows them how rewarding it can be to push themselves – excelling and improving with more time and effort they put in. These practices of self-discipline and self-motivation are then also likely to be used in other areas of the child’s life, as well.
3. They teach children how to be social, and to be a “good sport”:
Though basketball is a physical game, it’s also capable of helping our youth develop great social skills through the constant physical and verbal communication and cooperation that takes place. It gives children the opportunity to practice kindness and respect with both their team members and opponents. Basketball camps also often lead to the formation of long-term friendships through the regular interactions that take place on the court, during team meet-ups and more.
4. They help to promote healthy self-esteem:
Being on a basketball team can play a major role in boosting a child’s confidence. For example, imagine the thrill a kid will feel when they make a basket for their team! It’s a feeling every child deserves to experience. As these young players continuously improve on their physical and social skills through the game of basketball, their sense of self-esteem and self-worth will also rise.
5. They’re FUN!
Children deserve to have fun and enjoy being a kid before the responsibilities of adulthood begin to kick in. Basketball camps provide a great opportunity for kids to enjoy a fun environment while learning important skills at the same time. The Young3 camps keep youth engaged and active while also driving them to push themselves and shoot for the stars (and the net).
Parents and guardians that reside in and around the Young3 cities are encouraged to register their child(ren) into the clinics if they’re between the ages of 7-14, and the tournaments if they’re between the ages of 9-14 via www.young3.org/page/show/4171503-registration.
