This weekend, players will get a chance to have their questions answered.
Sources have told ESPN that NBA commissioner Adam Silver and National Basketball Players Association executive director Michele Roberts will be hosting a call for all players on Friday, May 8th.
This is the same date that the NBA has permitted teams the reopening of practice facilities for voluntary workouts, with social restrictions and other guidelines from public health authorities in place.
Sources say that the call will give players an opportunity to ask questions or address any concerns they may have.
According to ESPN, the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets and Cleveland Cavaliers are the teams so far who are planning to reopen on Friday, with other teams apparently hoping to reopen the following week.
However, many other teams aren’t so anxious to return just yet – including the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
“Even though we can try and take all different kinds of precautions, it’s just not worth it — particularly when our guys are staying in shape and they’re going outside and shooting on outdoor hoops and working out in various ways,” said Mavericks owner Mark Cuban on The Athletic’s “77 Minutes in Heaven” podcast.
“So I just don’t think the risk is worth the reward.”
In the meantime, fans everywhere are keeping their fingers crossed for a sooner than later season return.
Remember, folks: wash your hands and keep up the social distancing. We will all get through this together.
